Happy New Year, Happy Lice Free Hair!

Lice do not have to enter the new year with us! As a matter of fact, they're not welcome to this year's party. Keep in mind that lice do not jump, but they make their way from person to person by crawling up and down hair shaft.

It is not hard for lice to get to you and your loved ones.

Just one hug with head-to-head contact is all it takes to bring home a pest and make your life miserable.

If you don't want lice party crashing in 2014, here are some ways keep the little buggies away from you and your family:
  • Do not share hats, hair accessories, or brushes/combs with anyone.
  • Do not have head-to-head contact with others.
  • Do not assume you will be free from lice by washing your hair daily
Kids need to be aware like you. Because school, camp, and other extracurricular activities is where they're likely to be around someone with head lice. It's not easy to identify head lice unless the person is scratching their head excessively, and even then it could just be dandruff.

FACT: Everyone with an itchy scalp does not have head lice, and everyone with lice does not have an itchy scalp.

That's why it's important to just set boundaries. There should be no head-to-head contact or sharing personal items. There are several lice repellant products on the market that contain scents lice have been reported not to like. You may consider using a daily spray for extra precaution.

If by chance your child or a family member brings home an unwanted guest, the best way to tell is by frequently checking the scalp after a shampoo and conditioning.

Tip: Lice love to hide behind the ears and around the nape of the neck. Look for signs there first, but be sure to check the rest of the scalp too.
